Uncle Mutt's Bar-B-Q
Uncle Mutt's Bar-B-Q
Location(s):
5404 N. Navarro Street Victoria, TX 77904
- 361-576-6888
The family behind Uncle Mutt’s Bar-B-Q Co. has a long history of making fantastic food. Milton Neitsch Sr., the grandfather of the current owners, operated a creamery in Gonzales and opened a hamburger and fried chicken restaurant in nearby Port Lavaca. In the 1980s Milton Jr. and his wife Jimmie opened Uncle Mutt’s Bar-B-Q Co. in Victoria.
Finding the perfect barbecue recipes was a change and a challenge – but the experimenting was what made the restaurant exciting to him. Following Milton Jr.’s retirement, Katina Arterberry took over the business with the help of her son, Jonathan Arterberry. The restaurant is a fourth generation barbecue joint and Jonathan is hoping his son, Jax, will continue the business.
Uncle Mutt’s Bar-B-Q Co. is known for Uncle Mutt’s Plate – a three meat plate with ribs, sausage and chicken. What makes their barbecue so unique is the rotisserie and the meticulous attention they put into all of their barbecue. They exclusively cook and smoke with oak wood; the meats are slowly basted and smoked for hours while rotating for an amazing consistency.
They serve up a huge selection of sides; it’s something Katina is very proud of. The most popular is Uncle Mutt’s Almost World Famous Rice. This recipe was developed decades ago by Milton Jr. and the original manager of the restaurant, a Louisiana native, through extensive trial and error – you can taste the perfection.
Uncle Mutt's Bar-B-Q is part of the
Coastal Texas Barbecue Trail
, and is open seven days a week, 10:30AM-9PM.
