Elizabeth Payne: Paintings/ Roy Fridge Whittlings

Elizabeth Payne is originally from the Midwest, and grew up in South Bend, Indiana, where she found her love of art by taking the train to the Chicago Art Institute. She attended the Cleveland Institute of Art and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from the San Francisco Art Institute. After being accepted to
participate in the 1975 Whitney Biennial, she moved to New York and earned an MFA from Hunter College. Eventually she moved to Yoakum in 1993 where she continues to paint in her studio.
Roy Fridge: Curious Arts and Other Whittlings. This exhibition will feature selected works by Fridge from the collection of Ann Harithas It will include rarely seen wood carvings by Fridge, the Beeville native who, after an early career in filmmaking, moved to Port Aransas and became known for his symbolic assemblages. His body of work addresses myth, storytelling, mystery and whimsy. This exhibit contains both his narrative works from his journaling as well as carvings from his days as a self-described “amateur hermit.”
